Frequently Asked Questions
1. What issues can psychotherapy help with?
Psychotherapy can support people experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, and life transitions. It can also help if you feel stuck in repeating patterns & behaviours, or want to understand yourself on a deeper level. Psychodynamic psychotherapy explores not only present struggles but also how past experiences and unconscious processes may be shaping your current life.
What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?
Psychodynamic branches from psychoanalytic psychotherapy and is a depth-oriented approach. It looks beyond surface symptoms to understand the roots of emotional pain and recurring patterns. Together we would explore unconscious thoughts, feelings, and memories that may be influencing your relationships and sense of self. It is not advice-giving or quick-fix coaching. Instead, it is a collaborative, reflective process that can lead to long lasting change through greater self-awareness and integration.
What can I expect in a session?
Each session is a confidential space where you can bring whatever feels most pressing, whether that’s a recent event, a dream, or simply your feelings in the moment. The focus is on your inner world, your relationships, experiences, and the meanings that emerge between us in the therapeutic relationship. Over time, therapy often becomes a place where unconscious patterns reveal themselves and can be worked through.
How long does therapy take?
Psychodynamic work unfolds gradually. While some people come for short-term therapy around a specific issue, many find that longer-term work offers the space needed for deeper and more lasting change. As everyone is unique, we will review your needs together as therapy progresses.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Sessions are private and confidential. The only exceptions are rare circumstances involving risk of serious harm to yourself, or any disclosure of abuse involving a child. Any notes are objective, factual and GDPR compliant.

How do I know if this kind of psychotherapy is right for me?
If you are curious about yourself, want to understand the deeper layers of your experience, and are open to exploring not just your symptoms but also the patterns behind them, psychodynamic psychotherapy may be a good fit. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to talk about, bringing your thoughts and feelings as they arise is enough.
